Portals

Portals in King's Steel are in the beginning only created by mages. The have a safety limit of 10 people. Mages can only make one portal a day and only do two days in a row before taking a day off. This is to not drain their mana dangerously low.

Near the middle of the book, they discover some hardware for creating permanent portals. These were found in ancient ruins. You need one hardware shimmer portal at each end to create this kind of portal. …
